When I walk down streets where everything looks the same

When I walk down streets where everything looks the same
Over and over the same lamp post appears, again and again
I wonder if I live in a meaningless cosmos
Lamp posts are made without thought and built in the same places

But if come into a warm room after a frigid snowy day
I think there is something good in this world where we spend our days
I feel like there is God again, he is definitely here
And souls are lifted when something like what must be goodness surprises them

The glimpse of the good
That you never saw coming
The sheer sight of it, encompassing of everything
I am welcomed into the hidden things
Like a little part of these white-washed walls opened and I realized light, blinding, breaks through

  1. I think I like this one the best so far. It is both deep, and yet approachable. I appreciate the comparison between the unwelcoming nature of frigid cold, and the sterility that results from modern efficiency. But best of all, it ends on a hopeful note which leaves the reader with a bit more joy than when they first started.
