White-washed Walls
A dull light shines bright on the white-washed walls
Of an empty room
It casts deep blue shadows that wander around in the in-between spaces
Fighting with the window-light and making the room somehow more silent
I come in now, led aimlessly by my little shuffling feet
The floor feels dry and dusty
I collapse, my back sliding down the wall.
I land hard on the floor
There to wait till morning when my bed will come
I can't sleep for my mind replays the past
But my thoughts are interrupted because the shadows begin to speak
I don't know what they are saying, or I do, but I can't explain it to you
I know they want to condemn me somehow, for something
But I can't hide from them, I almost don't want to
Though I have never been more alone
I have never felt freer somehow, this lonely night
I know the shadows will stay with me until I fall asleep
I wish so much to sleep but my back aches from the stiff wall
And the hard floor, and the lack of a soft covering
I will lie in this in-between state of being and someday, the morning will come
